...What is the Duty of a Civilized Person?...
I received an email recently, from what I presume to be a colored man seeking detailed info regarding what the Nation of Gods & Earths teaches. It's a result of me posting in the wikipedia discussion board sometime ago, and I left my email there for personal correspondence ( just checked here, it's been archived)..The questions were well asked, and the correspondence will continue, because there's more that have been asked...below is the 1st batch...
Peace...
1st, I'd like to ask your pardon for the delay, I've been rather busy lately, and havent gotten around to this reply as soon as I would have liked to. 2ndly, thank you for providing an opportunity of dialouge...
I'll answer your questions as presented. The answers, of course, will be from my perspective, and not the Nation as a whole, for the understanding of our teachings varies from member to member...please pardon any spelling mistakes, as I tend to type rather quickly to try & keep up with my thoughts...
One of the repeated questions in the article, and I would presume for your faith in general, is how the Nation views people of European ancestry. I have been unable to find a direct and clear point. Particularly, I want to understand the differences in the Nation of Gods and Earths beliefs as opposed to the Nation of Islam. Does your faith hold that white men are the devil? And if so, is it possible for a white man to be liberated from his devil-state?
The teachings that we advocate do state that the Caucasian peoples are the result of controlled eugenics, deviations of nature from the Original People of the planet Earth who lived many millenia in harmony with the planet. The word devil is used to describe the Caucasian people as a whole, but without a layman's definition. I understand that the word devil carries strong religious connotations, however, our teachings are not to be taken on face value, as the Nation of Islam does. Devil, when taken etymologically (sp), is derived from the Greek "diablos", meaning one who slanders, or accuses. In the approx. 6000+ years that Caucasians have existed, their existence has birthed unprovoked wars, political corruption, enslavement and/or genocide of entire tribes of people (continuation of controlled eugenics), pollution increasing at an alarming rate (including the nuclear fallout that continues to travel within our atmosphere), the depletion of the ozone layer, global warming, increase in unnatural weather patterns, etc. All of this is today due to misuse of nature, and deviation from the natural inclination to live in Peace and Harmony with Life on the planet Earth.
Where the slander and/or accusations come into play, no nation ruled by Caucasians has ever taken blame for the disturbance of nature that we and our children now suffer through (hell on Earth), the blame is always placed elewehere. It may not be intentional, but the fact remains that acting against nature has its consequences, for the planet and Universe are always seeking balance. To bring it to a more personal level, Original Asiatic People (black, brown, & yellow people) in North America have suffered the worst treatment possible at the hands of Caucasians, and continue to. So the emotional use of the word devil is stressed, as a release of frustration, especially by the Nation of Islam (less so now, since their current leader has been striving to become more diplomatic in his international relations). However, in the Nation of Gods and Earths, the general concensus is that we lose no time showing negative emotion toward Caucasians, for our 1st duty is to know and better our Own Selves. One must not direct hate or anger towards an entire race of people if that is the goal. At the same time, we do acknowledge the history of the Caucasians, which has been distorted in the mainstream. Overall, we acknowledge and accept civilized people, regardless to their genetic makeup, for the mental and spiritual makeup will dominate the physical being.
As for Caucasians having the ability to purify themselves, as indivuduals, yes, everyone has the choice to mentally and spiritually mature here on Earth, it's one of the main purposes of Life. There are many Caucasians who have proven this in their nobility (too many names to put here), and their sincere desire to uplift themselves from their nature. In Truth, religion is specifically for Caucasians to use as a tool to do so. The more corrupt ones have used it to brainwash/ mentally and spiritually arrest Original People as well as their own, which I'll get more into later. This may sound cliche, but it is a fact that there are Caucasians who are studying our teachings in full sincerity. We advocate 35-50 years of studying the nature of the Universe, their own nature, as well as the nature of Original People. Science is the quickest way to understanding the place of all of the human families of the planet Earth.
In regards to the sacred texts of the Nation, do you still hold to the Qu'ran and the Sunna? Do you invoke the wisdom of the Hadith? And does the faith belong to any of the traditional Muslim schools of jurisprudence? Finally, there has been some disagreement on the dietary traditions of the Nation. Do you continue to abstain from pork? How about alcohol?
The Holy Qu'ran and Sunna are not requisites in the Nation of Gods and Earths, although many of us use them for reference. There's really only one requisite- Know thyself. Some such as myself honor and respect the Truth in all scriptures, however we all agree that they have been tampered with between the time that the prophets revealed them, and now. The Holy Qur'an bearwitness to this Truth regarding the Holy Bible specifically. If I recall correctly (I was a practicing Muslim for a year or so before I began studying the teachings of the 5%), there is a Hadith where Muhammad stated to one or more of his inner circle (companions), that he who knows himself, knows his Lord. The closest to our teachings actually, would be the Sufi tradition, who sought to become one with Allah, until there was no difference between he and Allah. As for the 5% belonging to any of the traditional or orthodox schools of Islam, I would have to reply with a strong no. The religion of Islam is studied by many members, however, the Science of Islam is what we live and advocate. the 5 pillars and the 7 articles of faith were are not required. We have 2 rules generally...no consumption of swine, and no homosexuality. Also, it's strongly suggested that members fast according to their needs (not only from food drink and sex), and that all 8 bodies of lessons be memorized, so that the subconsious mind can internalize them and bring them into reality (not much different from the Hafiz, who memorize the entire Holy Qur'an). Aside from that, we advocate Freedom, Justice, and Equality for all peoples. Every Man or Woman has as their birthright to live as they choose, as long as it doesn't impose upon the Freedom of others. Religion, getting back to etymology, comes from the Latin "religare", to bind, or tie back. Ideally, it's designed to restrain the impulsive nature of Man and Mankind, it has been used however, to bind humanity from evolution, causing a herd mentality because there are some who would rather maintain their control over people, for various reasons. We are not held to any religious standards, and though we all agree on the 2 rules above, every member otherwise does what is best for his or her existence as an individual. I guess the best way to describe our world view would be existentialism :)
I hope that this begins to clarify our teachings a bit more. If you have any further ?s or concerns, we can continue this dialouge, I'm more than happy to set any misunderstandings straight.
Peace...
